Associate Professor Peter J Mews

A/Prof Mews is an Australian- and New Zealand-trained neurosurgeon based in Canberra ACT. After growing up in regional NSW, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of NSW in Sydney.

His neurosurgical training was obtained in Auckland NZ, Canberra ACT, and St George Hospital in Sydney NSW. In Auckland he also completed his Masters’ degree in medical science research. After receiving the FRACS in Neurosurgery, he relocated to Bristol UK for further subspecialty training in vascular and skull-base surgery and deep brain stimulation (DBS).

He is one of 10 dual-trained endovascular neurosurgeons practicing in Australia and New Zealand. A/Prof Mews represents neurosurgery and the ACT on numerous national boards and committees. He is credentialled for surgery at Canberra Hospital for public patients, and both National Capital Private Hospital and Calvary Bruce Private Hospital for private patients. He is currently a clinical Associate Professor with the Australian National University, and a leading member of the Canberra Brain Cancer Collaborative.

A/Prof Mews is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA), Australia and New Zealand Pituitary Alliance (ANZPA), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS), World Federation for Interventional and Therapeutic Neurointervention (WFITN), and the European Society for Minimally-Invasive Neurotherapy (ESMINT). He is also on the register of recognised practitioners of the CCINR.
